The Golden State produces 90% of all wine in the United States, and here we are providing some of our favorite bottles from the benchmark regions and grapes that California has become famous for. The Calera 2015 represents the 40th anniversary vintage from this pioneering estate founded by Josh Jensen, and combines fruit from Monterey, Santa Barbara, and across the Central Coast for a textbook representation of California Chardonnay. Sean Capiaux, also the winemaker for cult estate O'Shaughnessy, founded his own winery in 1994 to focus on Pinot Noir, and his Chimera bottling from Russian River Valley showcases classic ripe lush dark berry fruit along with floral and spicy elements, and this 900-case production gem received 92 points from the Wine Advocate. And representing Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon we have the venerable Clos du Val, recently featured along with Laura in the Somm III documentary for their history and track record of elevating Napa Cab to the heights of the wine world stage.
