While it might not necessarily be a wine region on your radar, South Africa has been producing grapes of wine since the mid 1600s. Some grape varietals that you might already know like Chenin Blanc called Steen and Cabernet Franc are found in South Africa. Other red grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Tinta Barroca are also deeming successful throughout the region's six large geographical areas. So what makes South African wines so unique? It's the ingenious blend of Old World traditionalism and the fruit-driven modern practices of the New World. Come try for yourself. We'll be pouring a line up of 6 wines from regions throughout the country as we discuss these topics and more.
