Wine Profiles: Gain a better understanding of your wine preferences
Everyone’s palate and wine preferences are different. And with so many wines to choose from, how do you decide what’s best for you? Wine Profiles can help. Think of it as the “make-up counter experience” or “golf club fitting”, but with wine. We will lead you through a tasting of 6 wines to help you deconstruct your preferences. At the end you will have a greater understanding of why you like certain wines over others and the specific characteristics to look for when choosing wine. Choose a white or red profile for your group.
If You Like That, You'll Love This: Obscure Grapes with Familiar Styles
Stuck in a wine rut? Corkbuzz is here to help! No matter what your go to wine, we can help you explore new styles based on your favorite varietals and regions. Looking for an alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon? Learn why the Cabernet Sauvignon grape creates full bodied wines with black fruit and pronounced tannins, then discover Touriga Nacional from the Douro. Do you always go for the Chianti Classico? Try Liatiko from the island of Crete and feel like you’re on a Greek adventure. Tired of showing up to the dinner party with Pinot Noir? Learn how grapes like Gamay, Frappato, Counoise, and Valdigue make a great stand in with red fruits, mouthwatering freshness, and a lighter body. If you’re used to settling for the Sauvignon Blanc, impress your palate and your friends by ordering the equally refreshing Verdejo, Grüner Veltliner, or Assyrtiko. While you’ll learn about classic grapes, you’ll discover alternative expressions you’ll be seeking out on wine lists and your favorite neighborhood wine store.
Tour of Spain
Learn about the major wine regions of Spain, from Rías Baixas to Jerez and everything in between. Within the last 20 years, this wine nation has evolved and today represents some of the world's best value at top quality. This country bridges the gap between the Old and New Worlds, combining tradition and innovation with a fascinating array of indigenous and international grapes and styles. We'll cover: Spanish wine laws and history; major wine regions and their climates, grapes, styles of production, and suggested pairings.
In-Depth Tuscany
Tuscany is one of the most famous wine regions in the world, and for good reason. This notable region in Central Italy is home to Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile de Montepulciano, Bolgheri, and more. Join us in discovering what has made Tuscany such a celebrated region. We’ll cover the history of the region, geology and climate, appellations and classifications. Red wines will be the star, but there may be a surprise white from San Gimignano, the coast, or notable white producers or wines.
Napa & Sonoma
We’re taking a trip to the West Coast! In this class, we’re exploring two of California’s most notable and infamous wine regions: Napa Valley and Sonoma. Separated by the Mayacamas Mountains, Napa and Sonoma maintain their own style, vibes, and wines. Do you want to put on your finest attire and dine at Press Napa Valley, or is it Birkenstocks and sipping wines amongst the redwoods? We’ll take you on a tasting tour through these two regions to get a better idea of what each does best - and which one is best suited to your palate and preferences. Be prepared to explore both tried and true classics grapes and regions, as well as some up and coming "new wave" neo-classical wines from old vineyard sites and passionate young winemakers.
