Wine Profiles: Gain a better understanding of your wine preferences

Everyone’s palate and wine preferences are different. And with so many wines to choose from, how do you decide what’s best for you? Wine Profiles can help. Think of it as the “make-up counter experience” or “golf club fitting”, but with wine. We will lead you through a tasting of 6 wines to help you deconstruct your preferences. At the end you will have a greater understanding of why you like certain wines over others and the specific characteristics to look for when choosing wine. Choose a white or red profile for your group.

If You Like That, You'll Love This: Obscure Grapes with Familiar Styles

Stuck in a wine rut? Corkbuzz is here to help! No matter what your go to wine, we can help you explore new styles based on your favorite varietals and regions. Looking for an alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon? Learn why the Cabernet Sauvignon grape creates full bodied wines with black fruit and pronounced tannins, then discover Touriga Nacional from the Douro. Do you always go for the Chianti Classico? Try Liatiko from the island of Crete and feel like you’re on a Greek adventure. Tired of showing up to the dinner party with Pinot Noir? Learn how grapes like Gamay, Frappato, Counoise, and Valdigue make a great stand in with red fruits, mouthwatering freshness, and a lighter body. If you’re used to settling for the Sauvignon Blanc, impress your palate and your friends by ordering the equally refreshing Verdejo, Grüner Veltliner, or Assyrtiko. While you’ll learn about classic grapes, you’ll discover alternative expressions you’ll be seeking out on wine lists and your favorite neighborhood wine store.

Piedmont vs. Tuscany

Do you wonder how to choose between the "Big B's" of Italy; Barolo, Barbaresco, and Brunello? Perhaps you're looking for the perfect Italian Pairing for your Osso Bucco, or Bistecca alla Fiorentina? We're putting two classic and renowned Italian regions head to head: Piedmont & Tuscany. While both are famous for their structured reds, bountiful history, and food culture, these two regions couldn't be more different in their philosophies, grape varieties, climate, and histories. We'll explore both, from Alto Piemonte to Bolgheri, and discuss what makes these two regions so distinctive, their wines so sought after, our favorite producers, and more.

Burgundy Basics

It is said that, “Burgundy (Bourgogne) is a holy grail for wine geeks: a region impossible to master, impenetrable to the casual observer, and endlessly fascinating.” In this exciting, introductory class, we’re exploring the two most popular grape varietals of Burgundy: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Burgundy is home to an array of exciting provinces, each of which produce a different iteration of these infamous grape varietals. In addition to geography and climate, we will discuss AOP wine laws and regulations, grapes, food and pairing suggestions.

Cabernet World Tour

Learn about one of the world's most planted grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon. Discover Cabernet Sauvignon’s history, learn about its characteristics, where it likes to grow,  and why it's such a popular grape today, often times with a high price tag to match. Gain an understanding of how terroir and winemaker philosophy highlights this noble grape's different expressions; from its original home in Bordeaux, France to Napa Valley of California, Australia, and beyond. For wine novices and aficionados alike, 6 examples of Cabernet Sauvignon and its dancing partners will be tasted.
