Union Square | Island Hopping: Canary Islands

13 E. 13th Street, New York, NY 10003

Take a break from the cold and warm up with an Island Wine escape with Corkbuzz! When one thinks about the islands, they likely think of lobster for breakfast, a nap for lunch, and Piña Coladas at midnight. When we think about islands, wine is FIRST to come to mind. Islands are also home to many of the world's most incredible, distinct, and enjoyable wines. In this installment of Island Hopping, we're heading to Spain's Canary Islands! 621 miles of the coast of Europe, this volcanic archipelago was Spain's last fuel stop when sending ships across the Atlantic. The result is a rich history of wine and trade, with distinct grapes and styles coming from the 7 islands. It doesn't hurt that the designation as the "World's Best Weather" keeps tourist visiting and sipping on these wines all year long. We'll cover the 6 islands that produce wine, discussing history, grape varieties, appellations, and benchmark producers.
