Wine Excursions | Long Island Day Trip with Laura Maniec & Amber Rill

Join Master Sommelier Laura Maniec and Stage 2 Master of Wine Candidate Amber Rill on an immersive and educational day trip to New York wine country! You've never seen New York like this. Just a few hours from the city, Long Island offers a bucolic escape with world class wines and dining. We'll visit three properties: Macari Vineyards, Meadowlark Winery, and Lenz Winery.

Schedule:

9:15 am - Meet at Corkbuzz Union Square, 13 E 13th Street. Coffee and pastries will be provided

9:30 am - Van departs Corkbuzz for Macari Wines

11:00 am - Arrive at Macari Wines Mattituck Tasting room, cellar tour with barrel tasting, vineyard tour and tasting

1:00 pm - Leave for Meadowlark Winery for lunch and tasting

3:00 pm - Leave for Lenz Winery for library tasting

4:30 pm - Depart back to NYC

About the Wineries:

Macari Vineyards Located on the North Fork of Long Island in Mattituck, New York, is owned and operated by three generations of the Macari family. The family’s waterfront farm, with sweeping views of the Long Island Sound, was established over 50 years ago. Since the first vines were planted in 1995, Macari Vineyards has been recognized as an industry leader in regenerative agriculture. Biodiversity and soil preparation are the keys to Joseph Macari Jr.’s philosophy; it’s not unusual to see Texas longhorns, donkeys, goats, and rabbits near the 200 acres of vineyards (planted to a range from Chardonnay and Cabernet to Gruner Veltliner and Pinot Meunier). They’re a biodynamic winery. Their cattle are used for composting and they grow grapes without the use of herbicides. 

Meadowlark Winery is a new concept winery destination located on the North Fork of Long Island. The Meadowlark's offerings stem from the Macari Vineyards' commitment to celebrating a love of life and a regenerative future inspired by the region's rural heritage. The Wine Bar is a modified tasting room that offers unique selections of the Macari portfolio by the glass or bottle. The focus is on limited wines, and innovative winemaking techniques available only at the Meadowlark property.

Lenz Winery Peter & Deborah Carroll bought the Lenz Winery in 1988, ten years after its founding, and when the Long Island wine community comprised fewer than ten established wineries.  

The LENZ philosophy includes expressing varietal typicity, varietal ripeness, vineyard health,  low intervention winemaking, and the importance of time.
