In this class, we’ll focus on exciting grape varieties that the state can offer, at every palate and price point. We’ll discuss the history of wine in California, the rise and fall of interest in particular grape varieties (Merlot! Zinfandel!), and how serious winemakers are seeking out sites planted pre-phylloxera and prohibition to craft elegant, thoughtful wines with history. It's almost hard to find a grape or area California winemakers haven't explored. We'll cover California wines, from ultra-natural/non-interventionist wine making to off-the-wall grape varieties, off-the-beaten-path vineyards, and some of our esoteric favorites. Join us as we explore the emerging stars and regions that are revolutionizing the California wine scene.
