Tasting Notes | “The 2014 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon called Pleinair is a blend of 95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest tiny quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is aged 20 months in 58% new French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. This wine has a similarity to a top-flight St.-Julien from Bordeaux. Loads of Christmas fruitcake, cedar wood, tobacco leaf, black currants and spice box all jump from the glass and from the flavors of this round, juicy, medium to full-bodied wine with silky tannins. Drink it over the next 15 or so years.” WA

Wine Maker | Laura Diaz Munoz

About | For the 2014 Plenair Laura combines fruit from two mountain sites (Stagecoach Vineyard on Atlas Peak and Yverdon Vineyard on Spring Mountain), with fruit from St. Helena (Van Z Vineyard and Yountville (Red Hen Vineyard). These combination of mountain and valley floor fruit brings both structure and approachability to the wine. There’s elegance in this bottle. Beautiful dark red cherry notes jump from the glass, with hints of wild flowers, chocolate and rocks. Medium bodied and wonderfully balanced on the palate. There’s plenty of juicy red berry fruit surrounding a good core of fine tannins, and a freshness brought by bright acidity lively minerals. A persistent long finish that seems to last for days leads me to believe that as good as this wine is now, it has the potential to age gracefully for well over a decade. Incredible stuff, this is a do not miss for any fan of Cabernet.
