Wine Profiles: Gain a better understanding of your wine preferences

Everyone’s palate and wine preferences are different. And with so many wines to choose from, how do you decide what’s best for you? Wine Profiles can help. Think of it as the “make-up counter experience” or “golf club fitting”, but with wine. We will lead you through a tasting of 6 wines to help you deconstruct your preferences. At the end you will have a greater understanding of why you like certain wines over others and the specific characteristics to look for when choosing wine.

Day Tripping: Tuscany

Tuscany is one of the most famous wine regions in the world, and for good reason. This notable region in Central Italy is home to Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile de Montepulciano, Bolgheri, and more. Take a day trip to Tuscany to start planning your next big adventure.

Cabernet World Tour

Learn about one of the world's most planted grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon. Discover Cabernet Sauvignon’s history, learn about its characteristics, where it likes to grow, and why it's such a popular grape today, often times with a high price tag to match. Gain an understanding of how terroir and winemaker philosophy highlights this noble grape's different expressions; from its original home in Bordeaux, France to Napa Valley of California, Australia, and beyond. Taste examples that highlight regional specificity and Cabernet's blending parters.

The New California

What's new in California? Plenty. It's almost hard to find a grape or area California winemakers haven't explored. We'll taste and cover: "new school" California wines, from ultra-natural/non-interventionist winemaking to off-the-wall grape varieties, off-the-beaten-path vineyards, and some of our esoteric favorites from emerging stars and regions that are revolutionizing the California wine scene.

Stunt Doubles: Champagne

Champagne is one of the most popular celebratory wines in the world, but it's prestige and limitations on how and where it can be made have pushed the price out of range for some looking for a fun Tuesday night bottle. We like to say at Corkbuzz "All Champagne is sparkling wine, but not all sparkling wine is Champagne". In this tasting, we're going to explore alternative sparkling wines, that are made in an identical process to Champagne but coming from other parts of the world. Expect to learn about wines like Cava, Franciacorta, TrentoDOC, Crémant, Sekt, and American, Australian, South African, and other sparklers made in the "traditional method". You'll get more bang for your buck and impress your friends.

Please note: Guests must show proof of full vaccination (2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna or one dose of J&J) via vaccine card or NYC Excelsior Pass PLUS to attend class or access any indoor spaces.
